Tribute to Collier Furniture Store

Collier Furniture Store at 327 West Tyler Street has been a landmark in Longview since the early 1930s, and is familiar to many Lobos who have dropped in to visit with the Colliers through the years.  The closing of the store is such a sad milestone that we’re offering this special tribute in recognition of the Collier family’s many contributions to our hometown.  We are very grateful to Mary Ann Collier for gathering the photos and articles shown here, and hope they will remind you of the times you spent there.

Fran and Lewis Etter

Frank and Lila Collier in 1928,

when they lived in

Stephens, Arkansas.

Pat Collier was only four when he posed for this

snapshot of the first store in 1935.

This ranch-style furniture was very popular

in Longview in 1942.

Collier delivery trucks were a familiar sight around East Texas in 1951.

The Colliers bought and used this old

hotel just west of the store, but the public thought it had a bad reputation!

The second store was completed in 1948, and was one of the largest and most modern family owned stores in East Texas.
